Summary of the new deadlines for the Self-Assessment Tax Return
On 6 January 2022, HMRC has announced that late filing and late payment penalties for Self-Assessment taxpayers are delayed – giving them extra time to complete the Tax Return 20/21, to ease COVID-19 pressures.
The last wave of COVID-19 has affected agents and taxpayers behaviours and, in some cases has concerned the opportunity to meet the personal tax deadlines. These changes allow taxpayers not be bothered about penalties.
Personal tax filing deadline moved to 28 February 2022
HMRC has announced that it will allow UK taxpayers more time to submit and pay their personal tax returns. The deadline for filing personal tax returns has been moved from 31 January 2022 to 28 February 2022.
Personal tax payment deadline moved to 1 April 2022
The deadline for payment has been moved from 31 January 2022 to 1 April 2022. So that, who cannot pay the Self-Assessment tax by the 31 January 2022 will not receive any penalties if:
- They pay tax in full by 1 April 2022
- They set up a Time to Pay arrangement by 1 April 2022.
However, you must pay interest from 1 February 2022. You can read HMRC full announcement here.
